“Every path has a few puddles.”

There is an increasing awareness of sensitivity in people as a gift instead of a fatal flaw. Click To Tweet

In my Facebook group, Practical Solutions for the Highly Sensitive Soul™ there has been a lot of lively discussion on the subject.  They seem to coexist very peacefully since both types of personality are tolerant, respectful, and really the lovers of the world.

There is a lot of information available about the Highly Sensitive Person, especially in the groundbreaking book by Dr Elaine Aron.  There is less to describe the more spiritual term Empath and what the differences and similarities actually consist of in practical terms.  In my own work, I describe the distinctions as follows:

Most Empaths relate to being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), but not all HSPs feel they are Empaths.

I found a great article that goes a little deeper into the traits of Empaths, so you can better determine which term describes you best.

Traits of an Empath by my friends at The Mind Unleashed.

The intuitive gifts of the Empath and more metaphysical nature of their sensitivity seem to be the biggest distinctions.  In both cases, I truly believe they are gifts that when properly channeled, bring more love, vulnerability, and compassion to the world.  We could all use more of those things, right?
